Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are the horses safe?
Yes, our horses are very safe! They have seen almost anything you can imagine from deer to grizzly bears to elk, and everything in between. Of course they are still animals with a mind of their own, but we do our very best to prepare them for whatever might happen.                                                              .

  • Does it matter what experience level we are with horses?

No, it does not! We can accommodate you whether you have only touched a horse once 25 years ago, or are an experienced rider.

  • What is the age limit?

For our one hour trail rides, you need to be over six years old to participate. However, we do have something in our back pocket for the younger children!

  • What do you offer for children under age 6?

For children under 6 years of age, we have “Pony Leads”. As long as your child can sit up on their own, we will get them up on a horse and lead them around for 10-15 minutes. They get a taste of riding while having a guide lead them around a corral.

  • How many people can you take on a one hour ride?
We can take up to 5 people on a one hour ride. If you have a large group, you can call in and make a request as long as we have some notice.

  • How many people can you take on a day ride or multi-day trip?
We don’t have a set number as our maximum. As long as we have enough notice, we should be able to get an appropriate number of guides and horses. We have taken as many as 6 people on day rides! That includes two guides.

  • Can our kids go on a ride without their parents?
    Yes, they can!

  • What happens if we book ahead but then it’s raining when we show up for the ride?

As long as it is not a torrential downpour, and the trail is safe, then we will ride. It is up to the guest to check the weather and be prepared- and that may include a rain jacket! If you choose not to come on the ride due to rain, we unfortunately don’t give refunds. If we cancel because the trails are unsafe, then you will get a full refund.

  • Do we get to gallop on the ride?

Unfortunately you do not. It is a walking only trail because we have an array of skills among our clients- it is in everyone’s best interest to have a nice, relaxing trail ride!

  • Is there a view on the one hour ride?
Yes, we do have a scenic viewpoint! About halfway through the ride, you will come up on a lovely view of Fairmont and Columbia Lake. Here, your guide will snap a group picture.

  • Can you do a one hour ride for more than 5 people?

If you book ahead, there is potential for a 6-8 person ride. We just have to know a day or two ahead of time so we can prepare for it.

  • Can you take people with special needs on the ride?

Yes! As long as the individual is able to sit up in a saddle safely, then we can take anyone 6+.

  • How do you book a ride?
To book a trail ride, you can call the Fairmont Activities Centre (you can call them at 250-345-6049) and book and pay. We cannot take payments at the stables because we actually don’t have power!

  • What do we need to bring for a one hour ride?

All you need for a ride is closed toe shoes and long pants. A hat is a good idea, because it can get quite hot out on the trails, as well as bug spray.

  • How far in advance should we book a one hour ride?
During our busy season, it is ideal to book 1-2 days in advance. Sometimes our rides are booked up days in advance, and we don’t want you missing out on this experience!

  • How far in advance should we book a day ride or multi-day trip?
As far as possible! We suggest at least a week in advance. However, if you’re looking for a spur of the moment trip, then we may be able to accommodate you.

  • What do we need to bring on a day ride or multi-day trip?
It is very highly suggested to wear closed toe shoes, jeans and a hat. A change of clothes and any personal hygiene items/medications you may need. We provide breakfast, lunch and supper for all days, as well as transportation getting to and from the agreed meet-up location.

  • Can my child ride on the same horse with me if they are under 6?

No, unfortunately they cannot. It is a safety hazard as well as our insurance does not cover that act.
